March 15, 2010 Ottawa Knitting Guild Meeting

Dr. Paulette Guitard, Director of the Occupational Therapy Program at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa, will be speaking to OKG members at the regular meeting on March 16th on injury prevention and care of hands for knitters. For non-members, meeting fees are $5 per meeting.

Stitch Doctor

For OKG Members only.

Do you want to brush up on an old or new knitting technique? Or maybe you have a special knitting problem that might be addressed. Come to the Stitch Doctor sessions from 7.00 PM until 7.30 PM (before the Guild meeting) in the Friendship Room, off the main corridor near the back of the church.

Knitters at all skill levels are encouraged to come and also to suggest topics they wish to have covered in these sessions. Discussions have identified new strategies and appropriate techniques for fixing problems and improving the appearance of ones knitting.

At the March session Enid Jones will be demonstrating "Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off" which is the easiest and the most stretchy bind off you have ever seen using the same needles as for your knitting. Enid will also be teaching "Judy's Magic Cast On", a cast on not just for toe-up socks but one which can be used as a provisional cast on for many other things, such as a scarf where you want both ends to be identical.

Knit and Learn Group

For OKG Members only.

The objectives of this knitting group are to support and assist any level of knitter to improve their skills, to help with the usual questions that arise while knitting and to share knitting experiences and friendship. Come join us to knit together on the second Thursday of each month at the Nepean Museum on Rowley St off Meadowlands a few blocks west of Merivale Rd. from 10.00 A. M. until noon. The meeting dates for 2009 - 2010 are as follows: Oct 8, Nov. 12, Dec. 10, Jan. 14, Feb. 11, and Mar. 11.

Attendees knit items of their choice. Assistance is also available for those who wish to work toward current Master Knitter programs. Instructions and assistance are also available for a discontinued program which knitters may do at their own pace for their own satisfaction. Meetings are informal, and all knitters including novice knitters are welcome. Knitters benefit from accredited Master Knitters visiting regularly with the group.
